Smeafield Xowie is our first born lamb. Known to friends and family as Gizmo!
His dam is Marble and his sire is Pendragon, he was born in March at 10pm on a Friday evening. Georgie was desperate to get home from University for the weekend to help with lambing. Sadly Gizmo appeared half an hour before she arrived! However his arrival was far from smooth. Marble had very poor and almost non existent contractions. In the end we called the vet as things were jammed and part of me expected a Caesarean for our first! Marble was so fat, and literally being fed nothing. She is just the kind of sheep that would get fat on a concrete yard. Gizmo seems to be following directly in her footsteps for being very well built on fresh air!
Gizmo was a character from birth with lots of presence and he loves to be the centre of attention. He used to make us laugh when we watched the lambing barn and he was on infra red CCTV in the indoor pens….he was always up to something cheeky.
He has really grown and matured so well, and although he is a big boy, he is a complete and utter gentleman.
We took him to his first show last week at Okehampton. He was entered in the ram lamb class in the Any Other British Breed section, it was a strong class of 11 including Cheviots, Southdowns, Herdwick, Lleyn, Border Leicester, and other Coloured Ryelands. So we were thrilled to win with our first born lamb at our very first show!
