So we have just received our very last 3 bought in sheep on to the farm. This now means we have all the sheep on site that we want, and will not be buying anymore in until we need new ram bloodlines in 2 or so years time.
Our Coloured Ryeland rams – Greenfield Pendragon, and his son Smeafield Xowie are now running out with their wives. We have strategically selected which ewe will go to which ram according to their qualities and strengths. So we are hoping love will be in the air soon and we will have quality lambs produced in 2018 lambing season.
Our Cheviots will not be bred until a little later, November. So as stated previously Pendragon will be bred with our white Cheviots in order to breed quality lamb from field to fork. Embracing the diverse and yet incredibly compatible genetics and desirable qualities of the northern hill breed, the North Country Cheviot, with the southern lowland breed, the Coloured Ryeland.
Our latest arrivals are our final 3 Black North Country Cheviots. We have received a ram who we have named Hotspur. He is big, wild, with an incredible and imposing presence, he has a front end like a horse! If he stamps his stock with his size and good looks then we will be very happy.
We have also received Humble and Heather who will join our other Black North Country Cheviot ewes and will be Hotspur’s wives in November. We are hoping to produce and expand numbers of pure bred Black North Country Cheviots. They are rare and so our flock is the only one in the south with only a handful of other flocks in the country.
