We were up at 3.45am and loading our brown sheep in the dark was an interesting experience!
We had 5 on board, Laura, Winne, Twirl, Gizmo & Twix.
Laura and Twirl were on first in the Ewe Lamb class. I knew Twirl wouldn’t get placed as she is later born than than the others, she is still quite immature but she does have a really lovely fleece and I thought it was good for her to go to just one show this year to gain confidence and experience as she may well be doing more next year.
There were such lovely sheep in all the classes, big classes too as whites and coloureds were mixed, and some very experienced competitors, so our judge John Mills had a big job to do. So we were thrilled when Laura was pulled in first and went on to win the Ewe Lamb class. Laura then went into the Championship later in the day and was up against all white entries of Any Age Ram, Any Age Ewe, and Ram Lamb. The any age ram won Champion and rightly so, he was very impressive. And we are very proud and so pleased that Laura won Reserve Champion.
Next in was Winnie, she is a shearling and was entered in the Ewe Any Age class. We were 2nd in this class and the judge commented on what a lovely ewe she is.
Finally it was the turn of Gizmo & Twix in the Ram Lamb class. Again a really strong class so we were thrilled that Gizmo came away with a 2nd place to a stunning and very substantial White Ryeland ram. Twix wasn’t placed as he still has a lot of maturing and growing to do, he is Twirls twin so both of them are a month younger than big boy Gizmo, but I think next year he will be a lot bigger once he has had a chance to grow on and mature. But again great experience for him too.
So pleased with our stock, how they behaved, and the lovely comments.
